Video production can sometimes seem like a mountain to climb, thankfully StrongArm has action man Eugene, as comfortable rock climbing as he is behind the camera.
When he is not shooting or in an edit suite you’ll find him scuba diving in Fujairah, kitesurfing in Abu Dhabi or caving in Oman.
Needless to say, he has worked in every possible shooting situation from documentary work for National Geographic to live hits for Bloomberg TV.
After 15 years as a hard news reporter for local and national newspapers Eugene switched to broadcast camera work.
Since then he has honed his shooting and editing skills with Dubai based award-winning TV production company, Nomad Media and has since gone freelance with such clients as Reuters TV and Associated Press as a self shooting producer and conducts live hits for Bloomberg TV’s outside broadcasts in the region.
Eugene made the successful transition from newspaper journalism to TV production, learning how to perform under pressure in breaking news environments with a whole new array of technology and techniques.
The art of story telling is something Eugene is constantly trying to perfect by combining his news gathering skills and video editing techniques.
His news reporting days started at 16 when he gained work experience in a local newspaper and was hooked on breaking news from there on.
He continued writing reviews for local papers and magazines while he obtained a a degree in Journalism and Media Communications from Griffith College Dublin.
After a stint in New York in 2001 on a student visa he returned home to start work on the newly launched Galway Independent newspaper before working for national tabloids. Despite the Celtic Tiger was in full roar, Eugene felt he still needed to see parts of the world he saw when he leafed through National Geographic magazines and Encyclopaedia Britannicas while he was in school.
He moved to Spanish City, Seville in 2004 and learnt the language and the culture before he was offered a post in Dubai in 2006. He was editor of three corporate magazines before he was asked to join the National Newspaper in Abu Dhabi as a reporter. For five years he covered all the major stories in the region before he took the jump into TV production.
